Preparing to Adjust for Milestones
One of the things that always threw me off out on the road with the little one is that we would always get settled in to doing things one way, and then the little one would grow and we would have to find another way to do things. You'll just have to be patient with yourself and the baby as you make the new adjustments to your new routines. Here were some of the milestones we faced.
Teething
The first issue we faced out on the road was teething. There were a lot of sleepless nights and our little guy was in a lot of pain. It wasn't easy. We had finally got him on a set sleeping schedule and all of a sudden we were catapulted back into two to three hours of sleep at a time.
Here's what we resulted to using to get us through this time

Crawling
When out little one first started crawling he was doing most of his playtime up on the bottom bunk. He took a couple of falls off the bunk before I realized we needed a solution. One of the people who was guiding me through setting things up in the truck suggested that I put our little one in a children’s harness and attach the leash end to the net on the back wall. I had a go at using this. It worked well and kept him safe while he played with his toys. |
Locations Forbidden to Little Ones
Throughout the USA there are many locations forbidden to children. Truckers sometimes have to travel to these location so you need to be wary of them. They are normally either ports or mines, but I have found several regular shippers and receivers that just have a stick up there butt for some reason. I have started to keep track of them in my Little Black Book, but there are still a lot out there that I don’t have access to information on.
When you come across a forbidden place, there are a couple of things you can do. One parent and the child can be dropped off at nearby truck stop or business to wait for the other parent, you can refuse the load if you have information before hand, or worst case scenario – hide out in the back of the truck with the curtains shut – which I really do not recommend.
