Another week has gone by and we are now seeing the weather getting much colder and much wetter. The days are also getting shorter which makes some of the longer days of driving a lot harder. On these days our little guy typically gets cranky and has been known to throw tantrums because he cannot see his toys to play with them. I have recently had adjust how I handle playtime in and outside the truck. Allow me in this short segment to cover winter driving with toddlers.
Issues and Solutions
1) Cold outside
- Difficult to go outside and play.
Solution: Try and park at a truck stop with a drivers lounge. The little ones love running around and playing with the machines in the arcade. Our little guy loves the car driving games and he'll sit there for about an hour yelling at it and playing with the steering wheel. Also grab some warm winter clothes and go outside anyway.
2) Dark outside earlier in the evening
- Difficult to play outside in the dark.
Solution: Try and park earlier in the day for the thirty minute break
that truck drivers have to take. This allows you to take any little ones outside to run around or into the drivers lounge if the weather isn't good enough.
- Difficult on long driving days to play in the truck
Solution: Don't bring out the games and movies during the day; bring them out when it gets dark and the truck is still moving. The little one will think it's a great treat to be able to play with them. I bring out my Ipad during the evening and my little guy plays tower games and shape games.
