What is preventative maintenance?
Keeping track of vehicle repairs, inspections and general maintenance schedules in order follow the history of your vehicle and prevent major repairs and downtime. The question of whether to do preventative maintenance or reactionary repairs is still debated.

Depends on the make, model and year of your vehicle and it's engine. Consult with the maker of your vehicle for more information.
Can I do some of the repairs and maintenance myself?
You can if you own your truck, however if you are still under a lease then it is up to the leasing company and your carrier as to whether you can or not.
Can I get reimbursed for repairs and maintenance I have performed?
Not Applicable if you own your truck. If you are under a lease or employed to drive, then it is up to the leasing company or the carrier as to whether they will compensate you for repairs.

Many carriers will provide their own personal maintenance sheet for you to fill out. If you are an owner operator or running under your own authority, it is easy enough to make your own on a spreadsheet.
